So a buddy and I were changing my brakes last night and we couldnt get the rotors off. So we took a hammer to them and the next thing I know the rotor cracks all around the hub and I'm screwwed! So now I am sitting at the Ford stealership where my car was towed and they are fixing it for me! Lucky for me they have complementry internet so I can post while I wait! Hopefully they wont rape me too badly...

Ever hear of penatrating oil, to get rid of the rust?

Secondly how hard did you hit them, must have been pretty dang hard. Your suppoused to hit them mediumly hard in between the wheel studs.

hitting the hub or the rust eater!

on a sidenote, one rotor shouldnt be too bad. i would think in the neighborhood of 300 or so. oh but your at a dealer, so multiply by 2 cause they will autmoatically do both. and if you have an SVT add 100 dollars to that...

That's what's good about living in Lincoln, Nebraska. No one knows the difference between an SVT Contour and a Taurus or Escort, so I get everything for the same cost.

Yeah so i'm still at the stealership ...waiting and the service manager walks in and says "Wow those are on there good, the tech broke the passenger side rotor off! They must have been on there since 98!" I say no, actually they were changed 40K ago in 2002. Thats why I brought it here because I couldnt get them off and I broke the first one. He then says "So thats why you had it towed here.." I looked at him for a min trying to figure out what hes smoking and think, no sh!t sherlock, I get my car towed everytime I need routine maint done!?! What a tool! And this is an SVT dealer to boot. Luckily I have my own rotors and pads so I am just paying for labor, hopefully it wont be more than $150....He said the tech was torching them off right now!!

Just read that LOL! I was about ready to take a couple of shots after dealing with this!

Anyway so it ended up costing $160 all labor and I am back on the road. I have just noticed all the other posts about the same issue and plan on taking my brakes apart and greasing the hub/rotor surface so I dont have to deal with it again!

At least I can see my pretty slotted rotors now

Isn't there a recall on those springs?

If so... it's on Ford (to get that far, though you would likely have to pay parts for brakes, labor was already done).

What springs? I had the parts already paid for, so do you think Apple V Ford would pay me back??
