You might want to find some kind of repair tool that will hunt & fix damage caused by the Sasser worm. I had to clean that off two of my machines.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

After talking with auiotour on AIM, I deleted a bunch of stuff from the registries and modified some programs. I ran Ad-Aware again, Disk Cleanup, defragged again and rebooted the modem (just in case).

IE windows still load slow and incomplete, if at all. Gmail, when it loads, won't send mail and AIM will finish the sign-on process about half the time. Photobucket also won't allow me to upload any pictures. It just times out when I try to submit them. (I'm trying to show a screenshot of my system configuration utility.)

Oddly enough, CEG loads fine every time.

Here's an updated registry list:

Maybe I'm looking in all the wrong places. I've run every program I can think of, including CWShredder.exe and EVERYTHING comes up clean. I'm at a loss as to why only my internet applications are affected. Maybe I'll uninstall and reinstall IE and see what happens.

Will I lose all my favorites and links if I do that?

I had a call for a home machine really slow on a cable modem. Happened right out of the blue, no porn for this guy. Boot up is usual speed, apps are up to par, ISP logon fine, any web page load is slooooow. Ran everything like you have done... nothing looks amiss. [XP Home, all Windows Updates done].

Was ready to call AOL for the client and perhaps uninstall/reinstall, when LO and BEHOLD the Norton Personal Firewall was screwed up (even tho everything showed ok, ran SystemWorks etc) so shut off the firewall... it's speedy again. Redid firewall all is good.
Is your firewall ok?
Is the OS up to date w/Critical Updates?
Are you using Spybot 1.3? 1.2 is now outdated.
What happens in Safe Mode?

ZZZ.

McAfee firewall is disabled. The subscription is up. It prompts me to renew every time I boot up. I need a good alternative.

WinXP is up to date (near as I can tell) and I'm using Spybot 1.3, as well as the latest build of AdAware6.0.

I haven't tried anything in safe mode. What should I attempt?

ON A SIDE NOTE...

The ability to edit a post within specified time limits is a B*TCH!! If it were disabled, I would have the ability to edit or delete useless registry information in this thread and save a lot of people a lot of reading and perhaps allow more help to be facilitated in a more efficient manner.

If you have the ability to change this, please take note and take heed that I'm not the first person, nor the last, who would benefit from the lack of such a restrictive administrative constraint.

Try this 30 day free trial I have 12 days left on the 30 day EZ-Armor which includes the antivirus with the firewall. The firewall is a version of Zone Alarm. The scanning is very complete and can show you the files that are not scanned. My CPU is win98 and came with McAfee from Gateway and last month when I went to update McAfee, it would not reboot. I went into safe mode and ended up being able to reboot without autoexec.bat running. I have not yet been able to find any files or extensions connected to any viruses, and all scans show nothing. My cpu runs better but I get a message on boot up about McAfee Safe and Sound not having a program to run with. I have an icon for this in My Computer, but it does nothing, it is just there.

It looks like it was a connectivity issue, after all. It wasn't working this morning and everything is perfect now.

Thanks to everyone for your help. I'm sure I cleaned a bunch of uneccessary junk of my PC and made it run a bit more efficiently. Seems Verizon was the culprit all along!
