I need to look up a few others but most look ok right off the top of my head.

I don't want to uncheck anything when I don't know what it does. Besides, the PC is new and it ran fine with those things checked before. There is some junk that made its way onto my machine and I need to get rid of it.

I've also posted this in the Wilders Security Forums. It's a site about PC security and they have a Spyware forum for helpless folks like me.

Forget Mcafee, try this Computer Associates.

using msconfig as stated before, here is a list of things you should close. But first Do you use MSN Messenger or Windows Messanger, also, what mcafee products do you have? Also, winamps client should be disabled, its a resource hog, for something so worthless as having it sit in your try. Second, not all those things were in their when you bought the computer, quicktime shouldn't have been there nor winamp and a few other things. Here is a list and description of what the programs are and whether they should or should, or doesn't matter if they are disabled.

#:11 [dsentry.exe]
FilePath : C:\WINDOWS\System32\
Advanced Desktop Engineering, from dell. no disabled this. You don't need it.

#:12 [pcmservice.exe]
FilePath : C:\Program Files\Dell\Media Experience\
Does anyone truely want the dell media experience. no, disabled this, just bogging down your computer.

#:14 [mmtask.exe]
FilePath : C:\Program Files\MusicMatch\MusicMatch Jukebox\
This was preinstalled with your dell as it looks. If you don't use this or use Winamp, I would disabled this. Either way, it takes about 10 seconds to open normally. Is it worth your computer slowing down because of it? No.

#:15 [support.exe]
FilePath : C:\Program Files\Common Files\Dell\EUSW\
Do you really need a second dell support program running, No, you don't. Disabled this if you are decent with computers, and well it sounds like you are. Besides, you can always open it from the dell folder.

#:17 [qttask.exe]
FilePath : C:\Program Files\QuickTime\
QuickTime, this is always enabled upon installing quicktime from apple. Go ahead and disable this.

#:18 [winampa.exe]
FilePath : C:\Program Files\Winamp\
You should disabled this. Regardless of whether you use MusicMatch or not, diabled this. No need for it when there usually is an icon in quick launch. Besides its not like its a slow loading program. Mine opens in like 2 seconds.

#:20 [psfree.exe]
FilePath : C:\PROGRA~1\PANICW~1\POP-UP~1\
You should go download a free copy of ZoneAlarm, and uninstall McAfee Firewall, and Popup stopped. Zone Alarm keeps spyware and programs from accessing the internet to report back to their host computers. Also does a much better job then McAfee firewall (IMO for McAfee Firewall)

#:21 [msnmsgr.exe]
FilePath : C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\
This can be disabled if you don't use it, also if you use Windows Messenger.

#:22 [notifyalert.exe]
FilePath : C:\Program Files\Dell\Support\Alert\bin\
This usually alerts you of updates. Not really worth it. This can be disabled.

#:28 [msmsgs.exe]
FilePath : C:\Program Files\Messenger\
Windows Messanger, disabled if you don't use, or use MSN Messenger.

disabling all these items, should give you an extra 40-50MB of free ram. Most dells ship with 128-256MB of shared ram, and some with 512MB. Well, 40-50 is a lot of any of that. I mean even at 512, thats 10% of your resources. Its bad enough that if you didn't get 512MB of ram you probably have shared ram, which is used for your Graphics and application memory, which really hurts you to have a 40-50MB wasted on applications that don't need to be open.

Did i miss any thing? Think i got them all.

Go to START, then RUN, then type in MSCONFIG, hit enter or ok....

Click on the STARTUP tab, basically you can uncheck everything.

This will make your computer start up faster and just run much smoother and should take care of most of your problems. I say most because you won't be able to get rid of everything that way but you will see that the computer is tight whips again.

You can uncheck everything except Explorer and Systray.

FWIW....I JUST got thru this same problem last week. Mine ended up being a McAfee SpamKiller app taking up 99% CPU usage. The file was MSKSrvr.exe, which it doesn't look like you have though. Found all sorts of people complaining of the same thing (very sluggish performance) on a McAfee bbs. I uninstalled it and it's like a new computer again.

How's your CPU usage percentage?
