See third post here , ignoring the part about inspecting for swirls because it'd just depress you Basically, 50/50 Isopropyl alcohol and water will do it. Or you can try to track down DuPont PrepSol.
Dish soap is for dishes.

No. Dishsoap is the wrong formulation for use in automobiles. Its primary purpose is to kill bacteria and cut through oils. Sure, it will remove the wax, but it can damage the finish and it will break down the oils in exterior plastics.

Normal dish soap, laundry soap and household cleaners are a big no-no, as they are designed to remove and dissolve grease and oil. These same detergents also strip the wax off of a car's finish and in some cases, "detergent burn" the paint. Hose off the entire vehicle to cool the paint if it is warm and to rinse off any loose contaminants.

its true. as your car gets older, if you wash with dishsoap regularly, you bumpers will be all blotchy and nasty colored.

Besides...what do you think we have been using all these years? Car wash has only been around for a relatively short time..and before that..Dish soap was always used...I even remember the days of using spic and span. But then again...we werent as lazy today..we always waxed after washing.

Dish soap is for dishes. Car soap is for cars. Just because people used to do it doesn't mean that it's the right thing to do.

Question
Can I wash my car with dishwashing detergent?
Answer
Your car surface and the dirt that gets on it are a lot different from the food soils and dishes that dishwashing liquids clean effectively. We don't recommend them for cleaning your car.
web page -> click on Q&A up top, search for car.
Even Dawn says not to use Dawn on the car.
Good to use.
