And besides, um, when it's hooked up to the airbox, the intake vacuum reduces the air density and thereby the resistance to rapid motion by your cams and valves, yielding slightly more horsepower. Yeah, that's it.
It is there for emmisions only. It does not help or hurt performance.
My experience; I have had a breather filter on for over 40k miles and it has yet to effect my oil (every 3rd oil change I send to a lab for analysis and all reports have been nearly identical).

will it cause me to fail emisssions???i got the print out from my recent test. with the engine all stock (except for the K&N drop in) it read:
High Speed Emissions Test Results (25 mph, 2105 RPM) HC (PPM): Standard: 132. reading; 12. result: PASS CO%: Standard: 0.73 Current reading 0.03. Result: pass. CO2%: Reading: 15.2 O2%: Reading: 0.1 NOx (ppm): Standard: 945. Current reading: 22. Result: PASS Dilution: standard: >6 Current reading 15.2, result: PASS
so what does that mean? it passed so obviously its good, but how good? its a 1995, adn the tech says she had never seen a car this old pass this well...she was hawt too
ill post this in the Zetec maint forum in a separate topic as well.
