i feel your pain. i lived in NYC for a couple years and road rage took on a whole new meaning.... 
Seriously though, for 15 miles, you could cycle it in 30-40 minutes tops if you rode slow. There's no way I'd tollerate day after day of a 15 mile commute taking 1.5 hours!
I'd even rollerblade, probably moreso. In Australia I rollerbladed to university as much as I could!
