i was looking at the WRX and seeing how the hood is, and the scoop. i was thinking of buying a hood off of a junked contour and making a scoop on it.

the idea is , the air box that is on the top of the motor over the throttle body (on the Zetec) is if you cut the top of it off, or remove it, and cut a hole the diameter of the box in the hood, and fabricate some sort of "air grabbing" scoop on it to have it force the air in there.

of course there would be a filter or screen of some sort there to keep bugs and little kids from being sucked in it.

if anyone thinks this is a good idea, ill try it, and if it works if anyone else would want one , i could make it.

I build and work on shelby cobras, both 289 and 427. they both Have to have a hood scoop, with out it #1 the hood wouldnt close, #2 it ductes cool outer air to the carbs, thus creating power. be sure that you put at least 2 filters before your element or you could gulp down about anything. what works well is a large mesh metal grate just behind the opening of the scoop(289) and then a fine mesh like metal window screen (427) then your element.

I had thought of that as well. Considering you can get fiberglass scoops at the hotrod shops around town you should be able to do it. Let me know how it goes as I may try as well.

What about the MAF sensor? Where is that going to go?

yeah, you know how little kids like to play in the road... but with that awesome sucking power they'd fly in there like a mobile home in a tornado.

as for the MAF i was thinking of leaving the air box on there to read it, but then it wouldnt read it right, i have the idea of putting the MAF sensor in a small hole in the scoop with a screen around it to keep the electrode things from breaking off, still in a early stage, but i'll work it out.

About the scoop, I was thinking of the same thing except I'm too lazy to get into another body mod. I'm already working on a set of skirts... Anyways, do you think a body shop could modify a current hood for a reasonable price. Any body man out there?

Good luck... But, before you run out and do this, consider this. I've had a number of "ram-air" type setups in my Cougar. Some "true" pressurized systems, and other not. I've had problems with stalling every time. When coasting to a stop, the car wants to stall. There is tons of turbulent air swirling around the MAF and very little getting into the engine in these situations.

Guys, I'm not sure about this one, but I'll throw it out there. What about using some tubing (like the ones people were using for the ram air through fog light), and installing a fan in there. A fan with a high RPM to keep the cool air moving through it, and not getting warm fast.
