Good man Forget the 302, go for a 351. 400hp would be easily attained, not to mention all that torque
Damn come to think of it, if I had the money, I think I would try that

Horse,
I understand where you are coming from now, you just want a Ford engine regardless of it's performance. Makes perfect sense. I have a Ford V8 60 with some nice offenhauser performance parts at home that may make a great transplant. Interested? I mean it's not a dreaded chevy that is lightweight, approaches 400 HP, has unlimited aftermarket potential, and gets great gas mileage, so it should work well.

60 - meaning 460? if so - no way - that motor is a slug. Not that Im ONLY ford - but I AM a ford guy and short of a 460 I love ford 8's - I just cant explain it to you how much I abhorre the SBC - I think it sounds like crap, you lose heads and valve guides ect ect ect. Never liked em' never will.
Chris has me pointed in a DOHC direction at the moment - NICE - but prob a bit too pricey for what im looking into.

Not a 460, a V8 60. 60 HP flathead that was popular in midget racing.
I think saying the SBC sounds bad is borderline blasphemous for an automotive enthusiast even for someone who can't stand GM.

oh - a FH - nope - has to be FI and have a CAT for me to swap it in the volvo - as the volvo did too.
And the second part - How can you even compare the sounds of a SBF and a SBC - Man they dont even sound the same.
This reminds me of Laguna Seca two years ago - the Saleen S7R Vs C5R. Everytime the Saleen would go round - Man it sounded SOOO good - the Vette? - sounded like an uncorked truck motor - it sounded terrible.
I am honest about my opinions - I wont ever own a Chev because I dont like a lot of things about them. and before you talk about engine noises - a 454 sounds SOOO crappy next to a 427 and EVERYONE knows that! Not to mention I think ill kick back to a bit of Nick Masons Into the Red and a lovely V16!!

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the 327 SB in my boss' 67 Vette sounds better than the 428 in my neighbors 68 GT500.
Don't get me wrong, they both blow my mind, but I think I like the Chevy better. Maybe its the side pipes.

They don't sound the same, you are correct. I personally don't think the SBF sounds as good. Granted, it's still sounds great, but there is something about Chevy v8s that is down right addictive.

I guess I disagree again. The ford 427 is one my favorite engines ever, if not my very favorite. But in terms of sound, performance models of the BBC rival it in terms of sound, and performance for that matter.

How about a Lincoln Mark VIII motor. They are the same as the 4.6 cobra motor.
