I have just discovered the catalytic convertor is rusted and has holes. Can't pass inspection this month.
The Ford Dealer want $1000 to replace. Other's can't get the part as it is only a dealer item. $750
Anyone out there resolve it for a better price?

Look in the classifieds for a replacement of ask in your local section. With allt he headers and stuff, someone usualyl has a stock laying around and they'd be glad jsut to be rid of it.

The problem with America is stupidity.
I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment
for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety
labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

2003 Subaru WRX some mods
Even if you don't have the answer, you certainly have to admire the problem.

$69 from CTA motorsports for the 2.5" magnaflow. Its not a direct replacement (there's some welding) but shouldn't be too expensive for an exhaust shop.

Seeing as to how he has a Zetec the magnaflow cat can't go in the factory location you will have to put it under the car like it is on the V6 which isn't that big of a deal don't let the exhaust shop charge u an arm and a leg to get it done. I know because I have the same cat on my car and mine is also a Zetec.

Sheesh, it's so hard. I really don't want to offend anyone's reading skills, but this always happens whenever you ask some Zetec -specific cat or exhaust question.. a number of helpful guys will jump in and offer handy&cheap Duratec -specific solutions.
Just to make it clear:
The Zetec and Duratec exhaust setup (i.e. catalytic converters) are different in many ways. For example there's NO pre-cat in a 4cyl setup, NO universal-fit cat can be used (unique shape cat), there's no cheap aftermarket cat for Zetecs (*), and it indeed costs $600-800 from a dealer.
Try to get a used one from a junkyard.
Tiv (*) I'd be so happy to be wrong on this one, having spent so much time trying to find one...

That's right. The cat is directly after the manifold so I don't see how you would be able to use a universal one with out a lot of fabricating. I have several good used ones available. If you're still looking for one contact me directly at ALFIGOLS@yahoo.com with your zip code and I'll give you a quote with shipping. Al
