The shop manual for the '95 Contour says that either 5W-30 or 10W-30 is OK.

I think the user's manual says that 5W-30 is "preferred", but that may be more due to to fuel economy considerations.

Ford is specifying 5W-30 for all engines made since 1989 (more recently they started specifying 5W-20 for some).

Unknown is why the 1989 cut-off date, since I'm not aware of any changes between the 1988 and 1989
Mustang 5.0 engine, for example, that would make the 1989 more suited for 5W-30. The users manual for the 1988 only recommends 5W-30 in cold temperatures, 10W-30 otherwise.

I guess the bottom line is use 5W-30 if you can, but if it's sold out or something using 10W-30 isn't going to break anything.
