I need some advice on my 95 2.5 SE. Lately it seems like it's really doggy and underpowered while driving. I am going to change the plugs and wires soon and a complete tune-up. I'm not sure what it could be. It seems to be knocking quite a bit especially when the air conditioning is on. Any ideas? The only mods I've made to it are the SVT airbox/K&N filter and the SVT inlet pipe.
I'm stumped. Could the secondary runners not be open? I'm not sure if the Duratec is like the SHO or not.
All help is appreciated.

I had a problem like that with mine and the secondarys where not opening because the vacum contolled diapram on the bottom had a hole melted through it...how that happened I dont know, I bought the car like that I think its called a runner control? pulls a lever by vacum that opens the secondaries...might want to see if its moving the lever that opens them, if not check the bottom back side of the plastic piece for holes

#1 WELCOME TO CEG!!
#2 thing to remember to let us know when asking similar questions:
How many miles, ATX or MTX tranny, any CEL's so on and so forth....
Stuff like this helps us help you.
Have you done regular maintnence??? Oil cahnges, air filter, spark plugs, wires.
If you can't remember the last time you did any of that....they i would start there first.
If you do take care of your vehical, then i would check the secondaries like stated before.

The car has 97K, 5-spd, and the maintenance is all up to date. I am very picky about my car, and this had been bugging me. It does need a tune-up. Oil change has less than 2k, but I'm going to change it when I put the new pan on in a couple of weeks.

If it does need a tune up, i reconmend getting that first, and also do a fuel filter too while your at it if you have not done so.
After all that, then i would consider the IMRC and the intake runners....and its not like your wasting money, since you need to do it any ways.
If your short on time though, by all means check the IMRC connection where it connects to the runners.
Theres little white tabs, that can fall out and cause half of your runners to not open.

Lupe, he has a '95. The secondaries are vacuum actuated, no IMRC to worry about.
I would suggest checking the vac tubes coming from under the intake manifold & inspecting the tubes, fittings, and valves for breaks, cracks, & leaks. Your secondaries may be stuck open if you have a vac leak. If this is the case, your car will be quite boggy below 4000 rpm, but act near normal above 4000 rpm. That what's happening to you??
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Well I replaced the plugs and wires. No improvement. I think it might be a vacuum leak. I changed the inlet tube to a SVT inlet tube since I have the SVT airbox on the car. Not sure if this could be the source of a vacuum leak. Hoping I can sort it out today.
