I see what you're saying and I didn't think about the underside of the UIM being coated, which is obviously most important. Isn't the ceramic coating supposed to act more as a heat trapper (as used on headers to prevent heat radiating from them) instead of a heat blocker(as in not letting heat into the UIM)? Not too sure, but either way, the prices look fairly cheap so even if it doesn't do much performance wise, it will at least look good.

That'd suck if this is true! I thought it could be used as both...anyone?

Ehh, don't get worked up about it, it's purely an assumption.

You guys need to go visit Jet Hots website. They have a great propduct out there. I have my headers and y pipe coated by them. They coat the outside and the inside.

Whoa! The inside too?! I think that would be a bad thing...wouldn't that decrease the ID?? As in someone getting their UIM EH'd then Jet Coated = not good?

The coating isn't that thick. I don't know off hand how thick it is but it should state it on the website. Otherwise email them or call them. They are very nice people and will answer all your questions. Pleasure to do business with.

The coating is only about .003-.004? thick and will reflect the surface texture.

On UIM's and LIM's they only do the outside...no inside coating like on headers and exhaust. Also remember 30% reduction in temps that's got to help a little and as you all know every little bit helps on these cars And for only $77 why not it certainly can't hurt. Call Chris...his number is in the GB, he is very knowlegable and will answer all your questions. Scott

The ceramic coating is a heat barrier.
The inside coating on a header keeps the header from receiving the full temperature of the exhaust gases, also keeps velocity up.
The "insulating" effect of the coating also increases the lifespan of the headers by reducing the peak temperatures they "see".
The coating on the outside of the headers keeps the engine bay cooler.
