I am doing a power point presentation for my computer class on the contique and am looking around for some information that would be kinda cool to throw in. I already have a decent amount of engine information and the trim lines but info about the transmissions, would be cool and any other tidbits that would help 'wow' the people.
Thanks guys

-Pete

hmmm... Maybe do something about Cosworth's involvement in the motor.
Also, you could show everyone that the brother of the Contour/Mystique (Mondeo) is over in Europe, maybe run along with that for a little bit....

I say definitely follow the World Car theme in your project. And throw in the fact there are thousands of us across the country that love these cars laugh

The ATX is the CD4E, which is also used by some Mazda vehicles. Do a google search on CD4E and you'll find some info on the background and its manufacture (Batavia, OH).

The MTX-75 is also used on the Focus, in a different housing. Shows how Ford likes to use the same major powertrain components across platforms (just like the Zetec being in Escorts and Foci). Cross-platform commonality makes the parts cheaper (higher production quantities makes the fixed cost lower per part) and makes design cheaper (by using an already designed part, you save development costs).

Also, you can throw in some facts about the Mondeo and New Edge Cougar being the same platform.

there is something about the rear wheel turning just a little to help with cornering, suspension design.

show some clips of one racing another. and dont forget to talk about service and recalls as well as plastic pulleys.

CD4E ATX does NOT have any check balls in it like other ATXs.
And it is electronically shifted by three solenids, and can be manually shifted from 1-2 if the solenids fail.

Oh yea..

It overheats on long trips, over 100 miles at a time,
and begins to shift irratically when it is overheated.

I don't argue the point that they CAN overheat, but I drive my 'Tour for work. As much as 500 miles in a day. Maybe I've been lucky, but it hasn't overheated yet. Dashboard curls, but ATX has been good to me...
