I have a 98 SVT Contour and my blower fuse keeps blowing. I went to Ford and replaced the "resistor." Worked for a few minutes then, bam! No more air. The resistor seemed to do nothing for me. It keeps blowing fuses. I checked the FAQ and did a search on it, but I can't seem to pinpoint a problem. So basically I need to find out why it keeps doing this, any suggestions for a fellow CEG'er?

Fuses keep blowing = short. Are you sure you connected it correctly?

All I did was put the new resistor in and plug in the connector (harness) I don't get it. This has been a real headache.

the fuse is made to blow when it gets more than the stated amounts of amps being pulled... i have a meter that clamps on one wire to see how much amps are going through a wire...
this is what you need to find out how many amps is going through the wire... if its more than the fuse then they not gonna work...what you need to do is remove the fan or the wiring to it and run the motor via a jumper wire and then put a clamp on amp meter on the wire to see how many amps it is pulling... if it not over the fuse rating then its not the fan motor....try alot of different ways: like the fan on heat, the fan on a/c, the fan on defrost, on vent...
and if it only blows when in one mode then associate it to that mode.... if all modes then its the fan or the wiring to the fan.... probably a bad wire in the system.. i have alot of underhood frayed wires that i had to seperate and patch up with Liquid Tape... a plastic rubberized liquid that you brush on wires to cover it for insulation of the copper wire....

Which fuse is blowing, the 30A fuse #37 in the I/P fuse panel?

If so, either there is an intermittent short to ground or, more likely, the blower motor is pulling too much current and is due for replacement.

The compressor clutch is not in this circuit.

I had the same problem last year before winter. I pulled out my A/C relay under the hood and that fuse in the car quit blowing. I doubt it is the blower motor I am more likely to believe it is a short somewhere in the a/c side. But I havent had a chance to track the short down....

Actually, fuse 37 is in fact the feed to a/c compressor clutch (via a/c clutch relay contacts), as well directly to the blower motor.

Pulling a/c clutch relay in engine compartment fuse panel easy way of isolating a/c clutch problems from blowing fuse 37, at least it allows blower to bring in fresh air.

Edit: See 2nd diag. on this thread fuse 37 feeds

So it is. It took several double-takes to follow that circuit.
