The best part is she probably pays $10/month for full coverage on that brand new PT Cruiser, while they want me to pay more than my car is worth for one years coverage. I hate insurance companies. Legal rapists of the younger generations.
Yeah I know what you mean, I have given them crooks over $3400, and currently $915 is due, and my car is only worth $2600.

There is a difference between "HAVING" the right of way and "YIELDING" the right of way.
Pedestrians in a crosswalk with a "do not walk" sign do not HAVE the right of way.
However, the right of way must be yielded to them. Obviously, you can't run them down, but likewise, a pedestrian can't just amble across a busy street whenever he wants....

As long as the pedestrian is in a cross walk you have to yield no matter if the light is red, green, purple, etc. Now, if they aren't in a crosswalk and step off the curb in front of you, that's a different matter as they can be ticketed for jay walking. So, in the vast majority of cases though, the pedestrian is not at fault.

true true. but his guy wasn't in the cross walk. he was close, but not in it.

I thought walking when the big orange hand says stop is also considered jay walking. They have laws against it for a reason, and this video is that reason.

This happened in the city where I'm a cop.My partner and I were dispatched to this accident originally and another crew arrived on scene and immediately called for a supervisor and traffic services(reconsructionists)Myself and my partner got sent on another call.We have about 15-20 intersections that have the cameras. The guy was prounonced dead at the scene, and like the article said woke up at the hospital. The guy was one of our local drunken homeless people and he was "jaywalking" at the time of the crash. They showed the video on the news here,up to where the car would have hit him.I haven't seen the video. It is in Quick time and any vid in this format/host won't work for me.We have had several car/pedestrian accidents lately. One hit/run killed a 5 year old girl.People drive like retards here! Be Safe out there Rod

That's why in MI, ESPECIALLY around Detroit-proper, you NEVER dump it off the light when you see green. The number of times I have gotten green on the way to work when I worked in Hamtramck, and then seconds later some "Detroit resident" assclown jumps blows a blatant red and crosses in front of me, is countless. I'm even MORE wary of taking off quick from a set of lights, especially in heavy traffic and on my motobike, as a jackass blowing a red light when I'm in the intersection would probably mean death for me! MI drivers are some of the WORST, especially when it comes to blowing red lights. When the state government talked about introducing red-light-camera's there was an uproar in MI, with people claiming absurd claims of "it denies my right to privacy!" PLEASE! It denies their chances to blow red lights! Red light cameras are almost everywhere in Australia, and you know what; very few people blow them now, and hence accidents like these are extremely rare!

In Savannah, we have two cameralights now. That may not seem like very much for a city like this, but they certainly are put to use pretty often. They're about three or so months old. One sits at the intersection of Abercorn St. 204/White Bluff Rd. and the other at Abercorn St. 204/DeRenne Ave. You'd be surprised how many times I'm sitting at a red and then the camera's blatant flash starts to go off, nabbing the license plate of somebody who thought they could make it through. The thought of them receiving their ticket in the mail is rather pleasing.

If you look at the vid close enough, you can see that the PT cruiser has its left blikner on. Why? I have no idea. Regardless, its evident that the pt is at fault.

I have to agree with Stazi. People in michigan CANNOT DRIVE! I live in Detroit, All day long people run red lights. Everybody is in a rush to go nowhere. Ive avoided countless of accidents sitting at green lights. You have to yield at green lights to make sure its safe to cross. People here run stop signs too. They just dont care. And most of the people where i live drive suburbans, tahoes, expeditions. These trucks are big. Cant imagine getting hit by one in my car, let alone while walking accross the street. We need camaras at EVERY intersection.
