Something that seems to have dropped off in this conversation is the debate of pedestrians versus cars. Pedestrians and bikes both have the right of way over cars. As long as the pedestrian is in a cross walk you have to yield no matter if the light is red, green, purple, etc. Now, if they aren't in a crosswalk and step off the curb in front of you, that's a different matter as they can be ticketed for jay walking. So, in the vast majority of cases though, the pedestrian is not at fault.
