That's so sad!
If you look closely you'll see that the guy crossing the street almost made it.
He seemed to hear the crash and began to run, but just before he got to the curb the SUV caught him.

As for saying anyone over 65 should be re-tested yearly, you people are stero-typing big time.

So what if it said the driver of the PT crusier was 75 all we see the the crash and nothing else.
Only the police report knows what happened and even then it's probably wrong.

Everyone runs yellow/red lights, speeds, develops bad habits, etc........

I think everyone should be retested every 5 years!!!

A 75 year old isn't street racing and killing people every day like 20 year olds!
2 weeks ago we had something like 6 deaths due to street racing in the span of 2 days,
all killed were in there 20's and in the cars.
The accidents were on major streets with lots of pedestrian traffic too, luckly no pedestians were injured.

It is very tragic indeed...

But the puzzle pieces aren't fitting together right, no matter which angle I think about it.

The Escort wagon is waiting at the light to turn left, but it is beyond the stopline, so I'm going to assume that he did NOT have a green arrow, but a green light, in which he was to yield to oncoming traffic and cross walks. That's why traffic across the street had to stop, but the PT Cruiser did not. Even as I think about it now, that doesn't make sense either, considering the way traffic lights operate down here.

But here's where it gets confusing: That would mean the PT Cruiser still had a green light. The Forrester was also going waaaay too fast to have just started rolling as the light turned green. Either she ran the red, or the PT Cruiser ran the red, but the Escort being in the turning lane messes it all up for me.

However, there's also another senario: Perhaps the gentleman in the crosswalk had initially gotten the white walk signal, but as he was in the crosswalk, the walk signal turned to the flashing red hand, signalling to hurry up and get off the road. Maybe he was not walking fast enough, and the Forrester was oncoming and the light turned green on him, giving the wrongdoing to the PT Cruiser, and causing the accident.

Bleh, I just can't fathom it. Any way I look at it, it's very sad.

I feel sad for the kid walking. That is really tragic.

Another shining example of why you SHOULD NOT try to beat the yellow light.

The SUV was going too fast to have just jumped off the light. Moreover the kid was crossing the street with the PT cruiser. Now the traffic on the left may have had a red light, but on the right it was green AND THE OTHER car that was sitting was waiting to turn left w/a blinker and the kid was in the way so he was not turning.

Make sense? Look very carfully at the frescort.

EXACTLY MY POINT! BOTH THE KID AND THE VEHICLES ARE AT FAULT!

FWIW, I don't know how many people actually read entire threads, but it was posted that the "kid" is in his 40s ...

plus in the USA no pedestrian is at fault when in a crosswalk.

So if I was to run across the busy traffic street and cause a major accident that caused over 10 people dead. Im not to blame here at all? Give me a break!

Or how about this..you got 2-3 of your kids in your car and this guy decides to run in front of you in a crosswalk illegally and killed all of your kids would just accept that? I sure wouldnt. This kid or whatever he or she is cross the street a bit too late in the video. He or she chose that path to be killed.

I don't remember ever hearing a pedestrian winning over a car in a head to head! No pedestrian is going to crash a whole car when a car runs into said pedestrian.
It's not the pedestrian's fault they collided, he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Unless of course the lady in the PT saw him walking, saw the Forester, then decided to gun it HARD, and hit the Forester out of the way... which is impossible. So basically, the pedestrian is NOT at fault

No mystery it's right there in black and white. Besides, watch the video again you will see all of the traffic in the opposite lane the PT was in STOPPING at the light. Seems prety obvious to me the PT was trying to haul ass through a yellow that turned red before he made it. The other car was probably a bit off the interesection when the light turned which is why it was going to fast when it turned green for him.

Thanks Freaky, I was going to quote that article after what Map said, but you did it for me. Saves me from having to do it. Plus, with all the witnesses there, I am sure the police got an accurate description of what happened.
