So I'm at the downriver cruise today and I had to leave early because I had plans to attend the Tigers game with my family and a couple friends. We get downtown and park a couple blocks away from the stadium (we've parked here MANY times before). Tigers win in the 9th inning and we're feeling good. We decide to go over to Detroit Beer Co. for dinner and a few drinks.

After dinner we're walking back to the cars and people start arguing over which way to go. So myself, my dad, my sister and my friend Bryan go one way (the correct way, of course) and my friend Brandon and my mother go another way. We get back to the cars and find that my front passenger window has been smashed out. Pissed off, I check my car and I find that nothing is missing. So my sister calls my moms cell phone and starts asking where she is at; all the sudden the phone hangs up. After a few failed attempts to reach her my dad takes off in his car to look for them. Finally they get the call that they've been mugged and Brandon and my mom are waiting for them back at Comerica Park.

The muggers assaulted Brandon off the start, hitting him in the side of the head and pulling a gun out saying "If you do anything we'll shoot". They take all his money, and then move onto my mom. They struck her in the head, stealing her purse, phone and all her jewelry. The ironic thing is that one of the muggers was wearing a security uniform.

My mom is very shaken up, and her head is still soar but everyone is ok. They were mugged in a well lit area right in front of the new condos that were built by the stadium. They didnâ??t see a single police officer while trying to find the car or after they were mugged. The Detroit Police Department makes me sick. In a downtown area with stadiums, casinos and bars there should be police available everywhere. I waited on hold for 20 minutes for an operator trying to file a report for my window; they're going downtown to file a report for the mugging in the morning.

Right now I donâ??t ever care to go downtown again. My car, my mom and my best friend in one night! [censored] that city!!

dude i am sorry to hear about what happened but thank god everyone is ok. all the stuff that was taken from your mom can be replaced.

that really sucks man, at least nobody was seriously injured. That whole thing is BS, I cant believe that there were no police in the area, WTF?!

My first time in Detroit (suburbs) there was a street fight in the hotel we were staying at! I don't even see that stuff all that much here in Chicago!

I live a block away from the Detroit Beer Co.. and agree with you.. the 1st precinct has a relitively small area to cover and you barely ever see them around.. Try being down here when the Kandi bar or Bleu lets out.. It's crazy..

I hope your mom and brandon are feeling better! It's sickening to think to what extent people will go for a couple extra dollars!

Fcuk detroit. My mother's secretary was shot in the head by her bf. He then shoots himself in the head. They both survive. He is in the hospital and one day decides to come to. The police let him leave the hospital. They gave up on the case. Fcuk Detroit. I think we should burn the mother [censored] down.

Mike, don't go back. Without the revenue from suburbia detroit will die.



So roger just how safe is detroit? First the fireworks, my mom's secretary, and mike's story. I've been holding back on that story about her, but I can't anymore.

Thank you for the support guys.

My mom is having a hard time hearing out of the ear she got hit in; she thinks there may have been some damage done to her ear drum. She also has bruises around her neck and chest where they ripped her necklace off.

They're down at the police station right now filing a report, and then she's going to get her ear checked out.

I'm really upset with the city of Detroit right now. They want people to come down and spend money to help the city grow; yet they donâ??t put the police out there to protect them.

I've had stuff broken into and stolen but I've never had to look down the barrel of a gun. That's some really scarry
sh!t I bet your Mom was really shaken up. That's just a damn shame. I'm really sorry to hear you guys had to go through this. Hopefully the cops will come up with something (yeah, right!). Just a really shi!!y situation.
