Like it says, I'm wondering if anyone on here has found a good way to mount a canoe on top of an SVT. I just need to move one about 80 miles to the river, its all highway miles and not very intense driving. I've looked and cant seem to find a good way to get it on there securely...
Any good ideas?

It might come down to that, I'm worried about it moving forward when I stop though...

If you put it up there cover it...otherwise you might give all those ricers an idea for a new mod: Canoe downforce!

Do yourself a favor and rent a truck. Shouldn't cost that much.

Thankfully my friend came up with a truck so no boats will grace the top of my car...

Awww.. I was hoping to see pictures! It'd sure look funny! Glanced at Old Towne's website, and it looks like 15' is a good length for a canoe.. and the Contour is a little over 15' long. Be funny seeing one strapped to the roof!

I did transport a canoe a few times on my Contour GL (I guess not much different from an SVT at this).

The canoe rental place gave me a "canoe car-top carrier kit" which is basically 2 pairs of slabs of plastic foam (cca. 4x4x4 inch cube with a slit) to pad where the canoes rim touches the roof, and some ropes to tie down the front and rear and also across the side through the open windows. The canoe is upside down of course.

It worked unexpectedly well, I did 60-65mph without any trouble, above that the ropes started to sing very laud

First time I made a bad mistake though, I didn't position the slabs carefully enough (i.e. be aware of the dome shape of the roof) and scratched the roof paint real bad with a screw head protruding from the canoe's rim.
