well, the amsoil is designed to go longer between changes. so while you'll go to wallyworld for cheaper oil, you'll make more oil changes than me and it'll cost u the same or more. the amsoil series 2k is like 7/quart. i do one oil/filter change a year and a filter change/oil top off at the 6 month mark. the average oil change ends up being around 10-14k miles. i've labtested the 14k oil and it was still good enough to continue using

I'm pretty sure, even though mobil doesn't claim it, that you could do the exact same thing with mobil1. And actually based on some test that somebody posted a while back (not a test from amsoil's website, obviously) mobil1 may prove better than amsoil for extended drain intervals.

Well here is the link that reports the results of independent tests done by some car nuts on Mobil 1 and AMSOIL. They have not completed their testing of AMSOIL yet but initial reports indicate that AMSOIL gives better initial wear results than the Mobil 1. Note that AMSOIL IS formulated differently from Mobil 1 to reduce wear....

"We note that initial wear is significantly reduced from the Mobil 1 sample. Is it the oil at work, or just the natural aging of the engine? Time will tell, we suspect. The first 3,000 miles showed the most wear on Mobil 1, so if Amsoil can buck that trend then it will hold a significant advantage in the long term. Also note that even with over 30,000 miles the copper is still crazy high (hello GM, do your cams ever break in or what?). Insolubles once again jump immediately to 0.3%. If we had to guess, we'd say this is the limit of the filter's abilities, and we're not likely to ever see better than that. Viscosity dropped a bit, something Mobil 1 didn't do, but it remains significantly higher than Mobil 1's viscosity at this stage. Round one, advantage: Amsoil."

It will be interesting to see how the tests turn out.. I hope they put their mileage on the car before the 12 month warrenty on AMSOIL expires..

AND: The AMSOIL SAE XL-7500 series oil is only 5.20 a quart. But it is formulated for 7500 miles or 6 months..

I know of no oil company that disputes AMSOIL's oil comparison testing of the leading oil brands. It breaks down to what you want to pay and how much you value your cars performance.. You decide..

yes thats correct. i use the series 2000 which is designed to go 35000 miles or 12 months whichever comes first with a filter change at 6 months. i usually do less than 15k per year. i dont think i'd go 35k for a year without an oil change anyway. it'd make me too nervous

I was talking to a co-worker the other night about this and he said he uses M1 on his Buick Regal and changes every 7,000. I asked him if he checked the oil to see how it looked after that long and he said he's never checked it, just goes and gets it changed. Like mr froge said it's a little more for the amsoil but with it designed to go so long you don't mess with drains half as often. Guess I'll have to figure out what I'm going to switch to. I'm going to call around and see if any parts stores have it here local. Thanks for all the info guys!
