Thanks guys. I forgot to mention that this is a 2.0l. Rogerm60, I heard about the impeller problem on the V-6, but I didn't consider it on the ZETEC. The on-again off-again problem i'm having does sound like an impeller chunck, or something, is blocking the coolant flow. The worst overheating experience I had occured when having to stop after climbing a steep hill. I turned off the car, and after a few seconds restarted it and everything was ok. On this same trip was the first time I observed the steam coming from the overflow tank cap. Do you backflush at the heater core hoses? I can only see one of them from under the hood. Is it best to get to these hoses from underneath the car?
