You let me know where you found an 8 year old Contour with 12,000 miles on it and I'll tell you the specs.
Guys it's the same for almost all model years. The engine and transmission choices didn't change at all with the exception of the addition of the SVT tweaked engine.
For the last time: ATX Zetec: approx. 11 seconds to 60, 18-ish in the quarter MTX Zetec: Give or take a tenth or two on the Duratec ATX. ATX Duratec: 8.7-9.0 to 60, 16.8ish in the quarter. MTX Duratec: 7.7 to 60/16 flat quarter SVT Duratec: 6.9 to 60/see a ton of signatures for quarter miles.
Next time, search and you shall find.
More like 12 second 0-60 for the atx zetec. And high 18s.
98.5 SVT
91 Escort GT (almost sold)
96 ATX Zetec (i brake to watch you swerve)
FS: SVT rear sway bar
WTB: Very cheap beater

6.9 to 60 for ths svt...the factory manual must be wrong it say 7.7 to 60....any magazine says 7.1 up to 7.6???? i've timed mine to around 7.8 w/mods and 8.1 back in the day

Mine does sub 5.5 on street tires.
However to answer the question the gearing is not well suited to give good results on the 0-60mph test because withthe OEM redline it takes a shift to 3rd. Just raising the redline to 7250 cuts close to a second off the 0-60 times without adding any more power. (high 6's)
A non-SVT would not be any quicker with a raised redline because the power peaks much earlier and shorter. That out weighs the extra shift.
2000 SVT #674
13.47 @ 102 - All Motor!
It was not broke; Yet I fixed it anyway.

ummm, mine has 36,000 miles on it. I got it from my grandparents and it was rarley used. Also, my 91 Explorer 4 door mtx with the 4.0 would whoop my tour up to 30 or so, probally a v6 mtx too cause it had good low end torque and the manual helped it get a good start, but brick aero-dynamics and little horespower in 3rd gear dosn't help it after the start.
95 LX-with a mind of its own

SVT exhaust and K&N=all thats worth modding

That's a pretty good time. You would be very hard pressed to get into the mid 5 second 0-60 time without turbo/3L etc or needing a new clutch by the end of the day . I've timed my summer car at 5-5.3 sec, very low 13s consistently, and that is with a 3L straigh six stroker motor (bored .30 over), tripple webbers (biggest you can get), big cam, adjusted timing (MSD), headers, 2 1/2 inch exhaust, HD clutch, tunable cascar muffler (loud), no cat, LSD diff, T-4 tranny, and racing tires. And that is with 265 hp (consevative) at the wheels and all in a 2300 lb car. The cornering is just as fun. I've pulled over 1 G on track slicks.
