Look at this thread. It's really just a lot of venting. Nobody even discussed the facts their opinions are based on, or the reasoning behind their conclusions. It's a good example of how we have gotten so locked in to our political beliefs that we can't communicate meaningfully about them.

I've seen you guys have deep discussions about other topics. On the whole, you're bright as hell. So I wonder if any of you would care to re-post, this time telling us WHY you do or don't support Michael Moore's agenda.

I'll start: Michael Moore is a spokesman for a set of political values. He is in favor of such things as housing for low income people and the homeless, closing tax loopholes for offshore corporations, reforming the campaign finance laws so that the wealthy do not have excessive control of politicians, energy self-sufficiency, cleaning up the environment and preserving open space, providing day care for children of working parents, and keeping our military out of places where our national interests are not at stake. He is against the robbery of our national treasury by defense contractors and oil companies that profit from our engagement in the Middle East. He is against shipping all of our jobs overseas. He thinks the war in Iraq was a mistake, and we should have cooperated with the EU and other countries in maintainging sanctions instead of killing thousands of Iraqis and hundreds of young Americans. Recent polls suggest that his agenda on EACH of these issues is supported by a majority of Americans. [flamesuit on]
