Anyone seen this or have done it? Did a search with very few results going back 6 months. Anyone have a damaged (beyond repair) E1 rim they would like to donate me? Have polished Mustang rims in the past, '85 10-hole and '86 SVO to mirror finish. Been wanting to try a SVT E1 for a few years. If anyone has one they are willing to send me (I'll pay shipping, of course), please let me know. Can even return it if you want. Own and have access to several polishers both orbital and angle, jewlers rouge, sanders, grinders, paint stripper, sandblaster, materials, ect. (dad has a bitchin airplane hanger) No idea of the amounts/numbers of metals in these wheels alloy, they might not polish worth a darn, I dont know. May be a reason a few people over the years have turned to chrome.

Thanks guys

The flimsy response to your search was because I don't believe it's been done. If it has, it hasn't been posted about.

While I did not try to polish them, I started to by using paint stripper to get started. The face surface of the rim is not smooth at all and was very pitted and rough under the paint. After seeing that, I decided I'd wait until I had more time to continue (I was supposed to take pics of the wheels for someone, too ).

These would be alot harder than '85 GT rims. The face of the 85's and the SVO's are smooth, where, as 1314 said, E1's are rough over the whole surface of the rim. It would probably take alot of time and patience.

Out of curiosity, did you have an 85?

Had an 85 LX 5.0 conv, white with red cloth and unfortunately, an automatic transmission. Took the 10 holers off in favor of BBS/Saleen-looking mesh rims-- 15 inchers, believe they were Keystone Klassics or possibly American Racing. Had Ford "Motorsport" center cap delcals, so I bet they were ARE, lol. So the 10 holes were in the garage and I was bored one night and cleaned them up to better than new. That was years ago. Now I have a black Mustang GT conv after swearing I'd never have another conv (leaks) and would never have a black car (hard to keep clean). Go figure, eh.

No stranger to polishing here - Surely someone has a bad E1 laying in their garage. You know your never gonna get around to making a coffee table out of it....
