1998.5 was the time when Contours became fleet vehicles, thus the midyear transition. Things like intermittent wipers, foglights and tachometers became non-existant on the SE models. After 1999, dealer lots were only selling SE Sports and SVTs. All SE Sports were V6s, so basically finding a four-pot Contour on the lot was about impossible.

And, really, the Mystique has always been the luxury model between the twins. OF COURSE it's going to have stuff like variable intermittent wipers that won't exist on the Contour, because Mystiques were never fleet vehicles.

Just in case, you might want to visit this a little more often.

According to the FAQs, all SE's made before 2000 should have had them. That is not entirely correct, and the objective of this topic.

A tangent: was PATS available before 1998? According to the FAQs it began in 1998... I thought it was through all years

Tachometers are standard in the V6 package for the 98-98.5 SE, it was never "decontented." For regular Zetecs (excluding Mystiques and GL Sports), the tach was not included, throughout all years. This was clarified in another scrutinous topic I wrote sometime last year similar to this one.

And never mind "OF COURSE" Mystiques will have variable wipers, I was aiming to find out if they follow that sense of logic. Because we all know Ford is known for their logic.

And unless the FAQs are incorrect again, Contours were all-fleet *only* for 2000. SEs and LXs were available on the lot before then.

It has been said time and time again that the main site needs to be revised more often. The FAQs haven't been touched for a few years now and it is becoming apparent, as inane details such as this are explored.
