So far, looks like this is true!

You guys otta brush up on the model year decontenting FAQs. All of this is in there already, so this is nothing new.

1998.5 was the time when Contours became fleet vehicles, thus the midyear transition. Things like intermittent wipers, foglights and tachometers became non-existant on the SE models. After 1999, dealer lots were only selling SE Sports and SVTs. All SE Sports were V6s, so basically finding a four-pot Contour on the lot was about impossible.

And, really, the Mystique has always been the luxury model between the twins. OF COURSE it's going to have stuff like variable intermittent wipers that won't exist on the Contour, because Mystiques were never fleet vehicles.

Just in case, you might want to visit this a little more often.

And lastly, what the hell does having or not having a tachometer have to do with variable intermittent wipers? They have NO relation to one another!

no they dont have anythig to do with one another, but logic (to me) states that one would want intermittent wipers before a tachometer, especially with an ATX. but that may be just me. hell i drive an MTX everyday without a tach, who needs em?

You otta know those newbies have trouble negotiating when to shift from drive to overdrive on those automatics. I personally can drive fine without a tach, but I just like to know where my engine is idling and such, to determine any problems of some sort.

haha tru dat. i can usually feel when my idle is off though. at elast when it is off significatnly enough to worry about. if its ~50 RPMS or so off that really doesnt matter to me.

yeah, my car has the 6 speed adjustable intermittent wipers. comes in handy all the time, especially in Florida. Rain can be pouring down, next second, its just drizzling.
