The displacement is slightly smaller on the 2000 engine. I don't know if the bore or stroke was reduced though because even though Ford says the displacemnt dropped from about 2.55 L to just barely under 2.5 L to meet European standards, the bore and stroke specs they published are the same as the older cars. I'm sure that the pistons are different, rather than head chamber volume, but again this is not published anywhere that I have found. Even if the pistons are what was changed for the higher compression, it still might not work on the older engines due to possible differences in bore diameter and possible difference in pin height if the stroke was changed. I wiah that Ford did a better job of providing specs like this.
