anyone know pros/cons on doing this to the svt? and what is available? if anything...


i am offically a troll... so take my information and advice with a grain of salt.

The SVT shouldn't need a shorter gear ratio as it already has problems hooking up with anything short of a Quiafe installed. Shorter gears would compound this problem. What we need are Euro spec gear box (closer ratio) with the US spec final drive diff gears. This is the combo Mumm Bros have run in their Cougar... they say it should tear up the streets... To my knowledge, nobody has attempted this for the street... yet...

The only other way is to simply put shorter tires on your car...

how much does the euro spec gearbox cost? where can i get it?

This guy I work with says his cousin with a CSVT put some different gears in his car. I say that his cousin is smoking crack and this guy is too for believing him. I was thinking maybe the SVT has different gears from other Contours and that could have been what he meant. Is this true or am I the one that is smoking crack now??

well, with the quaife, shorter gearing, sticky tires (maybe d/r) i am hoping to get better acceleration, then have a custom burnt chip to bump up my redline enough to still stay in 3rd on the 1/4 mile...

as it is you have to bump the rev limiter to stay in 3rd for the 1/4, I don't think you will be able to spin the motor fast enough (at least not w/ out parts flying out randomly) to stay in 3rd if you drop the final drive gear lower by any noticable amount.

I really think your efforts are better spent elsewhere as far as gaining 1/4 mile times. Besides, shorter gearing will increase the torque seen at the half-shafts by quite a bit, and they are overtaxed already by either a 3L or an S/C, the shock loads would likely be too high for them to last.

btw, even if parts were readily available to do this swap, it would be very expensive for not a very large gain. Now on a Mustang, that's a different story entirely laugh
