You didn't get their explanation? Why?

Unless the bearings were so far gone that the axle had chewed up the inside of the hub itself, I don't understand why the hub had to be replaced. And, I can't imagine the bearing(s) getting worn that much, and you still being able to drive the car.

Are you talking about the front or the rear bearings?

From what I understand, the rear bearings are not serviceable separately from the hub. If the bearings go bad, the whole hub assembly must be replaced.

If you're talking about the front, I have no idea.

Not sure if this is what happened in your case, but I'm a certified mechanic and work at a shop full time and sometimes the situation is: bearings plus labor to press them out and in is more money than buying a whole hub assembly that just requires installation only. You'll have to ask the shop why they figured they needed to change the whole hub

it was the front bearings and hubs. the only other thing that i can think of is that they didnt want to be liaable if it wore out again quickly so a little wear means replacement. oh yea the hubs were 300 dollars a piece bearings were only 60 apiece
