Having lived in the middle east, and I go over there still a lot cause I have family members over there, I can say that it really didnt shock me. The driving is possibly the worlds worst even when not trying to spin out. I think its because its because of the 'will of Alah' mentality.
It goes something like this
'If I kill my brains against this light pole during my 720 degree spin, then Alah wishes it'
And because the govts dont really do anything much to try and train the locals in safe driving practises. They (arabs) have not had cars for as long as Europeans or Americans, so the whole driving concept is a much newer thing to them.
