My car is sitting at the dealership I took it in to get the front wheel bearing changed. They just called said it would be like 450 to change because I was going to need a new hub too. Now they havent even taken it appart and they are telling me this. Is this common these hubs breaking when they take out a bad bearing.....

No, replacing the bearing should not damage the hub, and the hub should not have been damaged from driving with a bad bearing, unless you kept driving it after it was really, really bad.

If the cost was for both sides then the price is not bad. It takes a lot of labor to just to get to the point of sending the knuckle/hub/bearing assembly to a machine shop to press out the old bearing and then press in the new bearing.

If you consider about 4 hours to remove and install, about 1 hour of machine shop time plus the cost of bearings:

4hours x $65 = $260
1hour x $80 = $80
2 bearings x $33 = $66

Total = $406 + misc nuts&bolts

I just replaced my bearings and lower control arm and can tell you that it's not easy, doable but not easy. FWIW.

Man you got taken for a ride...WOW that is rediculus price you paid. I removed both my front hubs in about 2hrs myself in my garage and Canadian Tire pressed out and pressed in the new ones for $30.00 Canadian. That is insane and I would take the old ones to a front end shop and ask if the hubs are still good or not? or is just the bearings gone bad. If its just the bearings call Ford and report the incident. Dam STEALERSHIPS....lazy to press them out.
