On a 5.0 (87-93) the stock TB is 60mm and an upgrade is recomended to a 65mm. The 65mm is said to work well up to 500hp or so.

My question..is it worth it to go up to a 70mm or will 65mm be cool? Will 70mm be overkill? I know our engine is not a 5.0 but I have to ask.

Luckily we have 2 people that just did both wink

Honestly, a 65 should be fine on a 2.5, and as Aussie has shown, it appears to need less hacking to make work.

I'm sticking with the 70 on mine mainly because I got a good deal on it, and it works well for me. And of course, if I ever do the 3.0, it'll be just right. smile

I ran some really quick and dirty calculations the other day, and it looks something like this:

stock 2.5L - 63mm
svt 2.5L - 65mm
3L w/ svt upper - 70mm

Ideally for max power you should run a TB that is just large enough to feed both intake runners during high-rpm operation. Any larger and other crap may come into factor (i.e. driveability concerns at part throttle, etc.).

I can get a 70mm from a friend. If I put that on I am assuming MAF will need to be upped and then I have to get that "AIR" out somehow. Y-pipe is on order and cat-back in in but Headers wont happen for a while.

anyone have the ford part number for the 65mm TB so i can call Gary at Atascadero Ford Outlet and get one? he needs and exact number or an exact application...

I have a used 70mm FRPP TB coming my way, supposed to ship this afternoon. Should go nicely on the 3 liter, especially when I get the Sho Shops upper to match the "missing" secondaries. laugh

I was just thinking...

3.0 HiPoFoMoCo, SE MTX, FRPP TB, SMA Ex, PF MAF, BNM SLD MM... Some nice code talk we're coming up with here...
