Well, brought my car back to the shop today to have egr tube replaced because of the leak. My mechanic was on his way to my work to drop off my car, and the muffler pipe popped off. He said their was hardly any power and then "boom" lots of power now, then it got loud - exaust pipe popped out of the muffler. Then as he was driving it back to the shop - it overheated - "in the red" as he said. My car has never been past "M" by the way.
In two and half weeks i've been their 4 times and $1057 later - anyway. My main concern is the overheating problem.
Could this happened from having the wires on the new tube plugged in improperly?, or having something unplugged? Still don't know why there was so much backpressure to blow my pipe.
Any suggestions before i see my mechanic tommorow?

It sounds like you have lost the water pump. The plastic impeller likes to come apart. Do a little digging around here and in the FAQ section to see what i mean. If it is the water pump, it is not the mechanics fault. The test is to see if you have heat from the heater when it is acting up. If you do not have heat, it is probably the water pump. If you do have heat from the heater, check your thermostat.

By the way, it would be easier for us to help is you would post the year and engine of your car whan you have questions so that we don't have to check your link to discover that. Make it easy for us and you will get faster and better responses.

It has been almost a year since this.

Again, either the CAT is plugged or the exhaust is crushed. The main CAT may even have crumbled with the peices now plugging the muffler.

Yes, check your water pump. It may be a good idea to check compression too.

Thanks for the reply guys! Just got back from the shop and saw the condition of the tube and muffler. It looks like my muffler exploded - full of cat mat. The tubes from the dpfe sensor were still on, but the upper metal tube connector on the egr tube was cracked - hense the hissing. No heat from the vents - water pump time. Metal impeller pump being replaced in two days. New thermostat, colant flush, and pcv valve at the same time. Also Just ordered a 2" stainless magnaflow from CT - 20% off. For the time being my ride is a 2004 accent gsi - girlfriends car.
Roger - point taken on the sig - I'll change it soon. 95 se 2.5 mtx.
