Reading your post a little closer I do wonder if it's the waterpump at all. Sorry, I didn't want to scare you with that last post.

It should heat up a lot faster if the waterpump is bad.
It very well may be the ECT.

All old black plastic impeller waterpumps will go bad however.... but you may not need to change it just yet
