for a pre 98, get a special tool, called a DIN tool to remove your radio from the dash (cost=Approx $4 at walmart, looks liek 2 u shaped deals that slide into the square slots ont he deck fase), this will make life easier.

pull the radio out. unplug wiring harnesses and antenna lead and set them aside, dont let them fall back in or you may end up hunting for them.

set the radio aside.

pull on thetrip along the top and bottom, taking care not to pull to hard. you will break the tabs off of the trim if you yank it.

disconnect the dimmer switch (yellow plug on left) and set the trim aside. then on either side of the HVACS, you will see 2 black screws, towards the bottom corners. remove these and pull the whole white unit out. the bulbs are in the back. they are 2 little black rectangular plactic pieces, cocked at an angle. un screw 1/4 turn and remove bulb. replace with colors to suit your taste or just with a clear one to return to stock. then reassemble.

Are you sure its clear? The door light handles which are green require a green bulb so it shines green, I just replaced one the other day. I think if you want greenish color for the HVAC letters and knobs you have to go to the dealer to get the bulb.

Nice How-To though by the way.

The bulbs in the HVAC is clear, took both of mine out and set a 6" blue neon inside. The HVAC overlay is what makes the light come out green due to green coating on the backside, just like on the gauge cluster.
