My 2000 SVT has recently developed a very bad loss of power similar to what a rev-limiter does. It happens if I use more than half-throttle acceleration. Finally, it quit running entirely and after waiting about an hour I was able to restart it. It seems as though the gas flow is completely shut off until a lighter throttle is used. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Does it only happen when the gas is below a half or quarter tank? You might be another victim of the dirsty sock/screen in your fuel pump. The ones I removed recently - How to replace- http://www.contour.org/mods/mods.php?s=howto&displayid=39Oh, and BAT carries the sending unit, which is the functional part of the fuel pump assembly. $80 instead of hundreds for a new fuel pump.

Wow, I'm impressed with quick response to my post! Yes. the condition is worse when low on fuel. I don't have the expertise to perform the filter replacement, so I'll have to take it to a Ford dealer to do the work. I'm not familiar with BAT. Please send me a link or address.
Many thanks,

http://www.contour.org/mods/mods.php?s=parts_source and the BAT link is at the top pf the page. The part in question is on the BAT catalog which you can download (pdf format).
It really isn't that hard, just annoying.
Oh, if you don't have to deal with white trash neighbors and rain like I did and don't shoot any parts off into your gastank, you won't have a problem at all except for maybe a few nicks and scratches.

Maybe.
I figure mine has been line that since it had 49K (I have 96K now) miles on it when I bought it. Right after I first noticed the problem, I ran several tanks of Chevron through with some fuel system cleaner and it wasn't AS bad, but it was still a problem.
To give you an idea of how bad the problem was after I bought the car, I was driving at abour 60MPH and the fuel supply got so bad, I slowed down to about 20 before I got off the freeway and to a gas station.
After my aggressive "additive" regimine for the first two months or so, it would only bog down under heavy acceleration with less than a half a tank or if I was goin uphill or loaded. It was a good thing I drive alone most of the time. I really shouldn't have waited as long as I did to replace it, but there was no way in hell I was going to spend lots of $$$ to let a mechanic drop the tank to do it.
$80 for the sending unit and 3 hours of time (most spent fishing in the fuel tank for a dropped part) was well worth it.
Dirty fuel = BAD.

I have the same problem when it's below 1/2 tank. Do you think this could cause any power loss even when the tank is full? Maybe not as noticeable. I feel like the car is too slow.

When the problem was at it's worst, I noticed a hesitation similar to the "drain" of power when the AC or defrost is on, even over 1/2 a tank.
No way to tell. Others mentioned PCV valves as well. Or you could just need a good manifold cleaning.

My car is doing the exact same thing, at 28,300 miles.......
I guess when I change my oil this weekend, I'll be pulling that out as well, good thing the weather is supposed to be nice.
BTW thanks for the help!
