Bars in El Paso are contemplating eliminating Ladies Nights because it's considered discriminatory and has been found to be in states such as California and New Jersey.
Since the only guys who could ever complain about ladies nights being discriminatory must be gay or have no balls, I'm wondering what your opinions are on the matter.

Well, I persoanlly don't think it's right for an establishment to price their product differently to people just due to a demographic.
For this reason, I oppose senior discounts.
To me... ideas like "skirt nights" that give the discounts to anyone wearing a skirt are a lot more fun, not based specifically on a demographic (man/woman/age...) and accomplish much the same result.
However, as much as I may not like them, there is no requirement for someone to go to a specific bar/nightclub on a given night, so government has no place getting involved in this issue.

Eh, I disagree. Govt has every right to intervene. How are ladies nights different from, oh, say a mechanic charging more or less based on the color of your skin? No, you don't have to go to that mechanic, do you? But it's still racism, and still illegal.

I enjoy the bar scene about as much as would a case of the plague (upscale clubs are a different story), but this is just f**king idiotic. I guess women that b!tched about equal rights for years are now finally getting them in spades... Now that I've got that off my chest, I completely understand why state governments are doing this, though: TAXES.That's probably 52-60 nights a year per club that millions of women are getting in without dropping a cover charge; say about 40-50% of the club population that particular night. Say that cover charge is only $5.00 (I'm being conservative here). Getting the picture yet? More revenue = more tax dollars. Scratch anything and there's a buck underneath it. In this case, there's probably tens of millions in tax revenue that will be dug up... ...all under the auspices of EQUAL rights.

Problem with the tax conspiracy is, the bars only run such a promotion to generate more revenue. They're in it for the money too, if ladies' nights didn't draw in more customers and sales they wouldn't run them.

good lord this is rediculous(sp?)! the "ladies night" is based on pure economics: -the men will go where the women are -given the choice, women (and men for that matter) are more likely to go somewhere popular when it is free versus having to pay for it -so the more women a bar or club can get to attend the more men are likely to show up. -the more people in attendence the greater are the chances of mingling -ect, ect, ect, -basic economics

Put a guaranteed tax stream (i.e., take off of the cover charge, which everyone entering has to pay) vs. a potential tax stream (i.e., booze, which not everyone purchases in volumes) and any tax agent worth their salt will choose the guaranteed tax stream EVERY time.
Furthermore, you actually think the state government tax officials consulted bar owners before pulling this one? I highly doubt this.
Like someone mentioned, though, smart bar owners will switch it to "skirt night" or "strapless dress" night, just to keep doing what they always have been...

Hijacking the topic ..
I don't usually disagree with you, but I believe senior discounts are good, even bordering on being necessary. Senior discounts happen not only due to traditional respect for our elders, but also nowadays simply because seniors are often on set income and would not be able to afford simple luxuries if discounts were not given. How would Grannie feel if she could no longer eat out once a month with her friends?
