pardon my ignorance, but cant you just use the power that runs the lights behind the dash? That has a dimmer built in so it would eliminate the need to use the dimmer it comes with... why would you have to run a separate line down to the fuse box?
Also, for my 99SE, my tach is on the left, The config on procarparts that shows the tach on the left is the Reverse EURO setup. The part "FORD CONTOUR SVT 95-99 V6" looks exactly like my gauges except the tach is on the othe side. Can I get this (SVT) set and just move the tach plate to the left, or are the parts not free enough to move around like that. Did the dash change on the SE to match the SVT in the later years?

Barney, PM'd you back.
About the power.... I didnt' splice into any wires at all. I put a female conntector on the end of the red power wire for the guages and pushed it into the back of the dimmer switch (yellow part) where the wires go into it.. more specifically the middle slot. There's only 3 wires going into it anyway.
The space allowed for the wires to go into the yellow plug itself is tight enough that the red power wire & plug on its end fit tightly. I've had it this way since day one, been over some big bumps and it's never flickered or anything. So if you can use your dimmer switch (post 98?) then that's by FAR the easiest way.
BTW, you don't want to use the stock dimmer switch, or wiring to dim the guages, it doesn't work like that. I doubt that you could dim the overlays that way.

My speedo needle started sticking again, so I took it apart and re-did it on Monday nite and have had no prob's since then. I also noticed that hum last night, when I was sitting with the engine off. It's very faint, but when driving, I can't hear it, even with the stereo off.

Yeah, the power for the overlays comes out of that box, it's like a ballast you see on fluorescent lights. So they hummm or buzz.
I notice on mine, when it's on blue and turned up it really makes a high pitched whine, which I normally don't hear anyway, but it's there. However, on green, it's virtually silent.
Either way I don't mind it at all.
About your needels, keep you eyes on them. Once you get them working, they shouldn't present any more problems.
