Here I am again talking about this Infinite Baffle thing, but this time I'm actually starting on it. I'm most likely getting a 15" Dayton sub. Here's some info: 350 watts RMS/600 watts max Magnet weight: 90 oz. Qts: .65 Single 8 ohm Voice Coil on Kapton Former So, with a flexible 200 dollars what would be a good amp. Keep in mind this doesn't require that much power. BTW I'm installing this right up to the rear seats, on the right side of the baffle board. I'll only use it with the seat down. Linky

Thanks man. I also finally had a intelligent idea! Well I think so anyway. If I put the baffle board on a diagonal leaning back, so it makes a triangle of seats, board, and rear deck, and then open some holes on the rear deck and viola! Bad idea or good? As long as there the holes or hole is large enough, so all the air can get through it should work. Please tell me if its dumb. Thanks again Chatta, any other suggestions?
Edit: Is the JBL ok with 8 ohms? I guess I don't understand impedence much. I know its ok to use as far as stability, but doesn't that make it like 75 watts rms? Damn I ask too many questions

Yeah that'd work fine. Maybe cut holes in the deck and put speaker grills over 'em so it'll look ok. I didn't see the sub is 8ohms until just now. Yeah the JBL will run fine at 8ohms, but it won't put out as much power. You might need to go with the BP600.1 instead.

For an IB setup, having any holes where air can pass between the trunk and cabin is a big no no. You want the two spaces completely separated. I wouldn't use either of the JBL amps. The 300.1 will be making 75w @ 8ohms and the 600.1 will be making 150w @ 8ohms. Your best option is to buy a 2ch amp and run it in bridged mode. Mono amps just won't make a lot of power at 8ohms. How about this US Acoustics USX-2150 which will put 300w into an 8ohm bridged load ($150 shipped).

They still make 8 Ohm subs? I would try to find a 4 Ohm sud they are just as cheap and you can get more power out of your amps.

There's a lot more than just impedence when choosing a sub, especially for an IB (infinite baffle) setup.
The Dayton IB 12/15 is probably the best value-conscious free-air sub out there. The trick is choosing the right amp to drive it.

Thanks a lot guys. Cthomp, the holes would be on the cabin side. I think I will stick with the Dayton and let the it drive my choice for an amp.
