EXCELLENT choice & deal. I picked up a Kodak DX 4330 for well under $200 and it also takes excellent pictures. The optics make a HUGE difference - pixels aren't everything. Work cameras are both 2 megapixel units from Kodak (DC-280 and DX-3600) that take pictures as nice or BETTER than many 3 and 4 megapixel brands.
Nikon Coolpix cameras also have very good optics & will give you great results. I bought a Nikon Coolpix 2000 for my sister - VERY nice camera for the money.
Try looking at cnet.com for some reviews. PM me if you'd like a more detailed review of any of the cameras I have.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Thanks to everyone for the quick replies. I think I have some great candidates from your suggestions and my research. I am going to head down to Circuit City to check out the Kodak DX6640, the Canon S410, the Sony DSC-W1 and DSC-p10. Of course, I will look at any other camera that catches my eye. Then, I will come home and find my best deal on the net.
Thanks again to everyone. I will let you know what I decide on when I'm done.

Get the best you can afford and make sure it says Canon on the outside.

Werd.
I can't figure out how to use half the modes on my Canon A60, but I can tell you it takes some pretty sweet pics when I set it right. I'm sure the A70 and A80 rock, if they are in your budget (I wanted cheap as #1 priority). Just wait until I get back from Citizen's Bank Park next week.
Hands down a better camera than my old craptacular Kodak.

I've had 3 Olympus and currently I have a Canon Powershot, Olympus C-750 and a Canon SLR 35mm.
Olympus all the way.
I know I shouldnt compare a compact Canon to a SLR-style Olympus 10x Optical Zoom with GREAT HUGE LENS.
Outside pictures on the Olympus are close to perfect. It captures light like no other cameras. The 10x Optical zoom is simply incredible. only complaint: no AF Light... so in a dark condition it could go crazy on you.

I also own an Olympus and have been totally satisfied with it. I've had it for a couple years now and my only current complaint is that even though I can control all settings (apeture, white light, f-stop, etc), it does not have pixel mapping which sucks because I have two stuck pixels.
BUT, my next camera will probably be Cannon's Digital Rebel. My brother has the D10 and I loved it, but I need to set a limit.

TThe new C-line does have pixel mapping !!!
And controls are much easier now.... much better than the older C-20XX series.
I would love to have something similar to the Canon Rebel.. but it is out of my budget. And actually i think i am set for life now: Olympus for day pictures and family/vacation events and a compact canon for night pictures and things.

fast80= While I would suggest to get the best camera you could afford, what you plan on doing with it matters most. No need to spend money on a camera with full functions if you never plan on using them.
