Thanks for the info guys, especially the link for the tranny fix. I think I'm going to do a cooling flush/replace and stick a 170 thermostat in it. Here in the hot humid south it's tough to get a car to run cool.

Hey Bill, keep us updated on your issues and if you have any other transmission problems, after changing the turbine speed sensor, let us know and we will try to help you out some more.

Welcome aboard!

Will do, thanks

Man! That's what were here for!

I'm having transmission shift problems also. Sometimes you push on the accelerator and it doesn't take right off, it hesitates. I looked up the 1S7Z-7M101-KA (Turbine Speed Sensor) - $15 at FordPartsOnline.com . It shows it's for a Ford Escape. I have a 96 Contour, 4 cylinder Zetec with ATX. I also read about a "shift selector Sensor". Could this be the problem ?? What about that TSS ?? Is this on my Contour ??

I would suggest your problem is fluid related. My car would 'hesitate' for a second when cold when I got to the first stop sign at the end of my street - then BANG!! it engages. Once warmed up, it was OK.

The solution was a 4 quart drain & fill, followed by a second one a few days later. I did a third after a few weeks to make sure I had fairly clean fluid & the problem has never come back. The proceedure is easy and cheap to try - just the cost of some Dexron III.

You should also consider a tranny cooler to prevent excessive wear in the future.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.
