I'm looking to change my 98 SE Contour. I bought the car through eBay, so I'm looking there again.
Chrysler Sebring/Dodge Stratus 2000-2002 range
Ford Taurus +2001
Any suggestions/warnings about those cars, especially with the Chrysler/Dodge one because I've never owned those makes.
Thanks.

If I had to get a sedan after the CSVT,
The only one that catches my eye is the Mazda 6 sport.
If you're looking for economy, get the Mazda 6i Sport.

I have a 2001 Dodge Stratus sedan. It seems pretty well built. The ride is softer than the Contour. It has double wishbone suspension; it handles well. The 2.4 liter engine is smooth, quiet and more powerful (obviously) than the 2.0 liter Zetec. It feels considerably heavier than the Contour. It is a lot of car for the money. Great car to go on long trips. I don't know about it's longevity or reliability, I've had it only for two months.

Yeah I like the 6, looks very sharp.. I can't bring myself to buy a Mazda though, so I'd wait for Ford to make their version. My next car though.. a Cobra.

Ya know, I'd pick up a nice used RS6 for a Contour replacement... Or maybe an S4 or BMW 3 series. Oh wait you're probably not loaded , Go for the 6, awesome cars.

IMO, no.
About what price range is that? Maybe I'll have some other suggestions once I know your target price.
Function before fashion.

Since you're buying a used vehicle, one of the top considerations should be the Mazda Millenia. Very overlooked car that was to have been the flagship in Mazdas Amati line-up. Excellent reliability ratings, comfort, handling, & good power. It would be like picking up a 3 series or Lexus on the cheap.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Personally one of few sedans i'd look into are the mazda speed protege, there good on gas and quick considering they come with a turbo. Check some out.

Power so long as you get the 'S' model with the huffer on top of the 2.3L motor--and then, only adequate. The 2.5L KL-03 motor doesn't inspire when it's toting around 3400# of sedan.
Overall a nice car if you don't mind a pretty old platform without a stick. They're probably giving them away these days.

Take a look at the cars he was considering at the top of the thread. The Millenia is an EXCELLENT - no, a SUPERIOR alternative to those cars:
