Driving home on commute yesterday...stuck in traffice with a/c on for 45 minutes so first open road i am flying. five minutes of going 75 or so and tranny is violently jerking on acceleration. fun stuff. made it the additional 45 miles to home. under 55 car was 95% ok....then sometimes above it would jerk. off exit and no troubles the whole way home.
Of course at mechanics did nothing so took to tranny guy. and again did a few on the ride to him but nothing. i am going to leave at tranny shop for a full day for them to go over(i leave the country for two weeks tomorrow and i cant get it picked up while i am away). seems electric..
anyone have similar experience?
also seemed to do this when hot and car is running hot

The ATX in our cars is known for overheating easily. I was stuck in traffic on my way home this evening in hot weather and it had me worried. At this point, if the tranny guy doesn't find anything wrong with your car, I would suggest having a flush done if the fluid isn't too old. How many miles since the last ATX service, and how many miles overall?

Yes I have the same problem but i have a manual 95 GL, after going on the highway and going like 80 or 85, it started as a litte bit of shaking and jerking a few days later, then got really bad. It was sporadic for a while and it has been fine the last 3 times I have driven it, so hopefully it just went away.

You might consider plugs & wires.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Its been about 20k since the flush last summer. And car about to hit 100k overall. I took it to a place for a 'package special' and have no clue if they did the flush or not last summer. Plugs changed then too...wires original.
If seems to really happen at 60 mph+. Did it again for 45 minutes of drive then nothing for next 45 minutes.

Definitely do a flush, even if its not the ATX acting up, since you're due for one anyway. TourDeForce brought up a good point: jerking/hesitation can be caused by ignition problems. Also vacuum leaks can cause erratic behavior. I had hesitation and jerking last year when accelerating above 80mph; turns out it was crappy plugs. Replaced them and the problem went away.
I've also lately been having some strange problems with rough shifting (details are buried somewhere in the Transaxle forum) but I'm going to be looking at ignition and the MAF before I condemn my tranny.

87,000 miles on a transmission that hasnt been flushed before, just partially replaced fluid a year ago. Is it true that it is unsafe to flush this (my) transmission? Im inching towards risking it and just having the flush done anyways. Bad idea?

Plugs and wires for sure... and you might want to get the new TSS (Turbine speed sensor) really improved mine...and it was doing the buck, jerk bang shift...shifts nice and smooth now. I also got a tranny flush.
