I think a turbo would be possible. The packaging wouldn't even be all that difficult. All we have to do is deviate from the stock header routing. Think outside the box, in a manner of speaking.
What I am talking about is routing the firewall side exhaust header toward the rear of the engine and immediately up and over the top of the transaxle. Wrap the header in heat tape. Mount the turbo where the Vortech normally mounts, relocate the battery, and route the radiator side header to the turbo. The intake routing would be very similar to that for the Vortech. An optional fan driven, thermostat activated, air to air intercooler could be mounted near the throttle body, with intake louvers mounted in the hood for fresh air intake. Sort of a ram air effect at speed for the intercooler. The MAF sensor would have to be after the filter, but before the turbo.
Now, want this to be really cool? Make the air to air intercooler in the design of the old "shaker" scoops on the Boss Mustangs of the late '60s. This would be easier to mod the hood for, also. Just cut and finish the proper size hole in the hood, mount the cooler so it sticks through, and viola!
Anyone else agree that this is plausible?
