Yea, that article shows the difference between the two. Other than the accessories and counterweight, they are the exact same thing. Lowes sells 7336 for $109.. It seems like the 7424 at CoastalTool seems like the best deal at $119. Includes the regular 7242 package, plus 6" Hook & Loop Contour Pad #18002 and 6" Counterweight. The case is nice, seems to sell for about $32 by itself.
I don't see the warranty mentioned on Griot's page..

I think I might buy a 5" pad counterweight. PC sells the 7424, a 6" polisher with the 5" pad counterweight. Mine came with the 6" pad counterweight. When I switch over, if I ever have to sand I would just have to switch back to the 6" pad counterweight.
It seems like the 6" counterweight helps reduce the vibrations of the buffer, especially at higher speeds like 5 and 6 (don't see people talking about going higher). When I get one, I think I'll stick with the larger counterweight.
Some people prefer to use a little larger pads than the backing plate (another item to worry about )to lessen the chance of the backing plate hitting the car.
Good info. Backing plate / pad discussion Another good link
