President Regan always had a positive attitude. What I remember Mr. Regan for is that he founded the "Affirmative Action Program". Most people beleive employees should be hired because of their ability and not their skin color so that program made him unpopular with a lot of people. He was a good president.

Yeah he's dead, I am tired of hearing about it on the news.
My mom asked me today what I would remember of Reagan. I thought about it, I was born in 1983 so all that I remember is what I have studied. So what I will remember of him is Sandra Day O'Connor, Lebanon, "Contras", and speaking in Berlin. He was so-so president to me. True he did make for great economic growth without inflation. But Iran-Contra was inexcusable. And that fact that nothing was done about the terrorist attacks in Lebanon is, what I believe, set the standard by which terrorist opperate by today.

That's another problem. There are so many "experts" on Reagan who weren't even alive during his presidency.

So that means what? What just because I was young(yes I was alive from 1983-1988 while Reagan was president) and studied him means that I know nothing about him? I know he wasn't the worst president, I just don't like certain things he did. Are you saying I am misinformed?

It hasn't even been 24 hours. WTF...
A select few on here have some pretty disgusting attitudes, behaving in such a way towards a previous United States President. Let the man go in peace, and for God's sake, at least keep ONE thread on this [censored] forum clean of rubbish.

Again as with all political threads here the postings are unilateral as hell. RR was an outstanding President, especially if/when contrasted with his successors. The fall of comunism had practically nothing to do with him though - it was stipulated by inner political process within the Eastern block, primarily in the Soviet Union and then - almost automatically by its sattelites. Reagan and Gorbi had 2 meetings - if my memory serves me right - the first one in Iceland failed miserably and only at the dawn of his presidency he made a move that was later on cosiderably expanded by Bush.
He also did a lotsa positive things domestically to move the country out of the Carter's mudwaters, but at the same time he was closely associated with the same number of negativity; suffice it to recall his wide support to fundamentalist groups that thank God faded from political horizon by the early 1990's.
I guess that overall he was undoubdedly a great political figure, not in the least b/c of his charisma and personality, something that at least 2 of his successors lacked completely (seemingly the said lack runs in the family.)
RIP

It's what you said about him that leads us to believe you have no idea what you're talking about.

no, it means that it's hard to understand what life was like during those times. much like we have no idea what it was like to live during the depression or during the holocaust, you have no idea what it was like to live in this time (and by live i mean actually be involved in instead of sucking tit and crapping your pants).
you can postulate on what you think of him and what you "remember" of him, but in reality all you have are the snippets the media has fed you while you watched tv and read the news.
