I have a B&M and love it... shifts aren't actually technically any shorter, they just feel that way, which is 99% of the battle.
My B&M broke about a year ago after 3+ years of use.
In this first pic you can see how weak the weld was. You're looking at the back of the weld--the ball part should face downward from the lever portion.
It is my understanding this has been fixed on newer models.
