I have a B&M and love it... shifts aren't actually technically any shorter, they just feel that way, which is 99% of the battle.
My B&M broke about a year ago after 3+ years of use.
In this first pic you can see how weak the weld was. You're looking at the back of the weld--the ball part should face downward from the lever portion.
It is my understanding this has been fixed on newer models.

In retrospect, it was all downhill from here. RIP, CEG.

Get the OBx and weld it. I welded over the pathetic factory welds and I love it so far. Much shorter throw and more solid feeel.

unfortunately, is not that simple. i purchased both shifters (bought the B&M about 2 years ago and the steeda last october) then i gave the steeda to one of my lathe guys and had him turn the new o-ring groove in it and shorten it. i had our welder do the extra welding on it (i dont own my own welder and he is an great welder) i then re-threaded the top of the steeda.
so as you can see, since i dont have direct access to the neccessary equipment, making a bunch of them would not be that easy.

A very half assed weld holding on the ball linkage that has then been ground down to be flush with the rest of the surface is how the OBX shifters break. My massive guns didn't help matters either
