People.pay.taxes. Without taxes, the country doesn't function. Of course, the amount of taxes paid varies from administration to administration. Regarding your 'point' that if you make no money, they give you money, well what exactly do you expect the people who have lost their jobs to live on ? I have no evidence to support this but I'd imagine that the majority of people that are receiving benefits have paid much more in than they are taking out. I don't recall any unemployed republicans refusing unemployment benefits either which they should do by your 'logic' and I use the word 'logic' loosely. Many republican's point to Pres. Bush's tax cuts and how wonderful they have been. Almost all conveniently forget what has happened to the deficit in the past few years. While some of it is undoubtedly due to the economic downturn (which I don't really blame this administration for), a lot is due to the spending of the current administration. All this administration has done is hung a noose around the next generation of workers in exchange for a few minutes in the sun now. You're so blinded by republican rhetoric that you just can't grasp that. http://www.cbpp.org/1-28-04bud.htm Read it for yourself. Feel free to refute the points in this article with any articles you care to choose.

You just pointed out the greatest contradiction of liberals. While Hillary Clinton and John Kerry claim to be "for the average man", they probably haven't driven themselves in years.
Barbra Streisand tells the commoners to conserve energy while her three story, 20,000 square foot house is air conditioned and well-lit at night.
Algore says we can't fart because it pollutes the air while the plane he rides around in burns thousands of gallons of fuel a day.
Bono wears $600 jeans while telling us all we should feel guilty for not doing more about feeding the hungry kids in Africa.
I could probably go on all night, but I'm damn tired.

The vast majority of people in positions of power or wealth do not drive themselves. It's a security issue if nothing else. Keep hammering away if you like on that point.
Damnit ! I forgot that Al Gore is the only person who flies planes. Silly Me.
So Republicans don't have AC ? Interesting ...
So what if Bono has $600 jeans. $600 for a pair of jeans exactly the same as my $20 Old Navy jeans means a nice little profit for someone. And profit is good right ? Or have you done a John Kerry and now feel that profit and free enterprise is bad ? Come On .... you know you're a Democrat !

Originally posted by TourDeForce: Separation of church & state, as it was intended by the founding fathers, was to prevent establishment of a "state religion". They did not want a theocracy that would deny rights or access to people of other faiths. After all, escaping religious persecution was one of the reasons for coming to the New World. The display of various religious symbols, observance of religious customs, rights, & rituals was NOT intended to be prohibited - even in the halls of the governmental buildings themselves. The traditional prayor at the beginning of legislative sessions is testement to this. I recall a religious symbol or two on some of our early currency. Freedom of religion - not freedom from religion. If you don't believe, don't pray, but do not trample on my right to free speech.
I'm sure I've commented before on this forum about how bizarre it is that the concept of ??separation of church and state? has been used to twist the First Amendment into a requirement that certain religious expressions be censored; which runs very much opposite of the entire point and purpose of the First Amendment which is to protect the right to these and other expressions.

Now hang on one second, I wasn't talking about unemployment benefits. I was talking about welfare. What should the people that lost their jobs live on? NOT MY MONEY. They should slap themselves for not working hard enough, work harder, and shut the hell up. If you can't work hard enough to keep a job, you DESERVE to be on the streets digging through trash cans, waiting in soup lines.
About the taxes.. I really do believe that if democrats had their way, the top tax bracket would take over half of your paycheck, because you can "afford it". I think that's wrong, and I believe in a FLAT TAX.

The welfare system dose not works. Im not saying get rid of it, because some times [censored] happen and you do end up needing it. I don??t like how once you get in your set for life, it gets even better if you have a kid or two (witch most do). HELL I wish I could get every thing I need payed for and never have to work but that would be wrong. I work for every dime I make and I don??t want to give it up to some deadbeat!

MarkO,
that's nothing new. Of course his class would be winning, he's a billionaire!
Buffett is about a conservative Republican as George Soros.
Ok, maybe not that extreme, but...
