Received my brand new 3L shortblock from Bill Jenkins, and initially everything looked good... until I noticed this: A close-up: Is that supposed to be a hole for one of the tranny bolts? Is it serious if I don't use it and install without it?

That sucks. A machine shop may be able to weld that up for you and retap a new hole. That is if it's not warranteed against damages during shipping.

Man that just sucks!!!
Hence why I picked up an entire 3L with 4k on it in town for about $600.
I have at least $300 in spare sensors now too. (plus fuel injectors, harness, etc, etc)
Heck I could probably break even just selling the spare parts from it...

Yes, you have a problem.
That is a required bolt up point for the MTX75. IT is the one above that sticking out that is for the ATX and can be cut off. Contact the shipper since it could have been done during shipping. The dealer will say it was good when it was shipped. Chances are you could have a piece welded back on but who knows if it will be as strong as original. IT would probably work fine though once welded.

Yeah...not good! Contact Bill and start proceedings on claiming for damage to the block. Take as many photos as possible!
You'll probably be able to weld it back together again, but it looks like you'll have to add a piece of Al on there as it seems from the pics that a chunk is missing.
But don't freak out too much, seeing as it is cast Aluminum, welding it back together won't be an issue as the mended section won't be any weaker than the surrounding parent material - an upside with Al!
That sucks though - seems like the shipper banged it against something, but you should be able to confirm this by checking the plastic wrappers for tears or evidence of the plastic stretching in the area where it would have been contacting the block. If the plastic wrapper is perfect then it's probably the warehouse that shipped you a damaged block.
A good TIG welder should be able to get you back on track!
Good luck!

Staz, do you think they could weld it back up with it in the car? I MUST get this installed this weekend, I wonder if I can bolt everything up in the car and they could get to it from the bottom?
